Banker Confidence Index
The Banker Confidence Index, meant to quantify bankers' forward-looking expectations for the industry, is based on responses by C-level bank executives to survey questions relating to four key factors: access to capital, loan demand, funding costs, and deposit competition.
The overall confidence index rose for the second straight quarter, increasing by more than a point to 52.1. This increase is nearly identical to last quarter's increase of 1.7 points, and is the first time the index has risen in two consecutive quarters since it began being tracked at the beginning of 2015. The gains in the second quarter also put the index less than a point away from the first quarter of 2015, which was the high water mark for this index.
