The late Anne L. Armstrong was a former regent of the Texas A&M University System, trustee and chairman of the Executive Committee at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, and former director of several corporations. She was the first woman to hold a U.S. cabinet-level post as counselor to the president under Presidents Nixon and Ford, as well as the first woman to serve as U.S. ambassador to Great Britain.
Ms. Armstrong served as chairman of the President's Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board under Presidents Reagan and Bush. She was the first woman to keynote the Republican Party's National Convention, and she held positions as vice chairman of the Texas Republican Party and Republican National Committeewoman from Texas. She graduated from Vassar College.
